Situated nine kilometres to the south of El Canuelo and at the foot of the Subbeticas largest mountain La Tinosa is the town of Priego de Cordoba. It has often been described as a Baroque jewel in the heart of Andalusia. It has a feast of Baroque churches and an amazing sixteenth century fountain with 180 water jets. The old town is situated on a picturesque escarpment known as the Adarve and the narrow streets with their white houses are decorated with geraniums in the spring and summer. There is a wide balcony at the edge of the old town known as the Balcon, which offers fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. A visit to Priego de Cordoba is a must for all those visitors staying in El Canuelo. The town can easily be explored on foot. |
